Takashimaya Famous 1993 Shopping Bag designed for the NYC Fifth Ave Store by artist Susan Slover. This very shopping bag is super rare since it was only used for the debut opening in May, 1993. This very bag is in the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum in NYC. So we are talking about a museum worthy shopping bag up for sale here. You could frame this bag or just collect it. But this is a rare and famed collectible. The four tassels look like black human hair. From the Cooper Hewitt website they say this bag was made in China. I only see a Japanese symbol and “New York” written near the top inside of this “custom beater-dyed light beige matte finished paper (bag), blended with longer fibers for durability...hand-strung handles and hand-tied and hand-combed tassels (four per bag); collapsible. Part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department (of the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian).” Dimensions: 18 3/16 x 11 x 1/2 in.; top flares to 16 1/16 in.; width flares to 5 1/2 in.
